Jewellery Sizing Help

A ring size is based on the inside measurement of a ring. The most reliable home measurements are the inner diameter of a ring that already fits or the circumference of the intended finger. A jeweller's finger gauge is more accurate when the fit is important or the band is wide.

Method 1: measure a ring that fits

  1. Choose a round ring that fits the intended finger comfortably.
  2. Place it on a ruler or calliper.
  3. Measure the inside diameter across the widest point. Do not include the metal edges.
  4. Record the measurement to the nearest 0.1 mm and match it to the chart below.

Method 2: measure your finger

  1. Wrap a narrow, non-stretch strip of paper around the base of the intended finger.
  2. Keep it snug but loose enough to pass over the knuckle.
  3. Mark the overlap point and measure the strip in millimetres.
  4. Repeat two or three times. Use the most consistent circumference and compare it with the chart.

Note: String can stretch or compress and may give an inaccurate result. Use paper or a proper finger gauge where possible.

How to improve accuracy

  • Measure the exact finger and hand on which the ring will be worn.
  • Measure when your hands are at a comfortable, normal temperature. Cold can make fingers smaller; heat, exercise and high salt intake can increase swelling.
  • Take measurements at more than one time of day.
  • If the knuckle is wider than the finger base, choose a size that passes the knuckle without sitting too loosely at the base.
  • A wide band usually feels tighter than a narrow band of the same inside circumference. Ask whether an adjustment is recommended.
  • If you are between sizes, ask for sizing help instead of estimating from averages.

The chart is an approximate conversion for Myraé's Indian size numbers. ISO ring-size designation is based on inner circumference in millimetres. Manufacturing tolerances and international charts can differ slightly, so use the exact millimetre measurement when available.
